The foreign ministers of the member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will consider the possible application of sanctions against Armenia due to its debts to the organization. This was announced on June 10 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. His speech was broadcast by the Ministry on YouTube.

"We discussed this today. For more than two years, Armenia's debt to the CSTO budget has been a situation stipulated by the charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Today we agreed to look at the use of the relevant article of the CSTO charter," the diplomat said.

Lavrov noted that Yerevan's debt has not been repaid for more than two years, which is the basis for launching the procedures provided for in the bloc's charter.

According to him, the two-year debt to the CSTO budget deprives the country of the right to vote and the opportunity to propose candidates for positions. A systematic violation can lead to expulsion from the organization without taking into account the opinion of the debtor himself.

On June 10, Lavrov announced that Armenia had already adopted a law on joining the European Union (EU), the issue of membership in the EAEU is acute, and it needs to be dealt with promptly. In addition, he drew attention to the fact that Armenia is actively increasing cooperation with NATO. Lavrov stressed that the country participates in military exercises, buys military products, and exchanges delegations with both the alliance and the EU. At the same time, Armenia remains a full member of the CSTO, he stressed.
