Mexico has developed the first national electric car

The first national electric vehicle has been developed in Mexico with the support of the government. The presentation of the Olinia Uno urban model took place at the Santa Lucia Air Force Base, with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum driving the novelty onto the stage, Carscoops reported on June 10.

The Olinia Uno is a compact six—seat electric vehicle with an 18 hp electric motor mounted on the rear axle and a 14.7 kWh battery that allows you to drive up to 100 km on a single charge. The maximum speed is 50 km/h. When connected to a 220 volt household outlet, charging takes about four hours.

It is noted that Olinia Uno is not designed to compete with conventional consumer electric vehicles and is positioned as an alternative to motorcycles and three-wheeled motorcycle taxis popular in the country. Due to the wide rear doors and the layout of the cabin, in which passengers in the second row face the riders in the third row, a person in a wheelchair can fit into the cabin.

The starting price of Olinia Uno will be 150 thousand pesos (about $8.6 thousand or 618 thousand rubles in translation). Representatives of the brand note that the operation of an electric car costs 0.5 pesos per km (2.06 rubles), whereas for a regular taxi with an internal combustion engine this figure is 2.4 pesos (9.89 rubles), and for a motorcycle taxi — 1.18 pesos (4.96 rubles).
