Murmansk cod is included in the 21st package of EU sanctions

The cod produced by Russian fishermen in the Barents Sea was included in the 21st package of EU sanctions against Russia. The new restrictions were announced by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, according to the Telegram channel "Rybfront".

This and other measures, including a ban on the operation of foreign crypto exchanges, are under consideration by the EU Council. The restrictions require the unanimous approval of all 27 member countries.

In May 2026, two fishing companies from Murmansk were included in the 17th package of sanctions. We are talking about Murman Seafood and Norebo, who were suspected of espionage.

Norway has also joined the restrictions, banning these companies from entering its ports and obtaining fishing licenses in the country's exclusive economic zone.

According to Bi-Port news agency, in the first five months of 2026, Murmansk fishermen shipped 25.5 thousand tons of products to the Eurozone countries. The EU remained the leader in consumption of Murmansk fish.
