- In the first reading, the State Duma adopted a law prohibiting the deportation of foreigners who served in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation
At the first reading, State Duma deputies adopted a government bill prohibiting the deportation from Russia of foreigners who served in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This was reported on the website of the State Duma.
Changes will be made to the laws "On the procedure for leaving and entering the Russian Federation" and "On the Legal status of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation." The innovations will affect foreign citizens who served under contract as part of the Russian Armed Forces or other Russian military formations.
It is noted that such foreigners will not be denied a temporary residence permit, a residence permit and a work permit. Also, these documents cannot be cancelled.
In addition, the law provides that all of these decisions, adopted on February 24, 2022 in respect of such citizens, cease to be valid. Also, cases are being clarified due to which a relative of a serviceman may be deprived of a residence permit or not issued.
Such grounds include calls for a violent change in the constitutional order of the Russian Federation or the creation of a threat to the security of the state and its citizens, financing, facilitating, committing or planning terrorist and extremist acts, as well as support for terrorist activities.
On May 27, at a plenary session in the second and third readings, the State Duma adopted a bill aimed at combating illegal migration and strengthening health control over foreign workers. According to the new regulations, the period of mandatory medical examination for migrants after entering Russia will be reduced from 90 to 30 days. The procedures that migrants will need to undergo will allow them to identify dangerous infectious diseases, including HIV, as well as drug use. In addition, foreigners arriving in the country for more than a month are now required to undergo such an examination annually.
