Reuters has learned about the reduction in the number of people willing to switch to the euro in Sweden

Support for the transition from the Swedish krona to the euro in Sweden has declined over the past year, and the majority of Swedes oppose the kingdom's accession to the eurozone. This was reported on June 10 by the Reuetrs agency, citing a survey by the national Statistical Office.

"Support in Sweden for the adoption of the euro has declined over the past year, while the majority of Swedes are opposed to joining the currency," the article says.

The agency said in a statement that 52.1% of respondents opposed joining the eurozone, compared with 49.5% in 2025. Also, 28.7% of Swedes surveyed were in favor of abandoning the krona in favor of the euro, compared with 32.0% in a similar survey conducted a year ago.

In 2003, the Swedes voted against joining the European Monetary Union in a non-binding referendum.

The adoption of the euro does not promise Stockholm great economic benefits.

The Polish government said in January that the country should not switch to the euro yet, as the rapid growth of the economy and strengthening public finances make it more profitable to maintain its own currency, the zloty, at this stage. Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Dombrowski noted that the final decision on joining the eurozone will be political and depends entirely on Poland itself.
