Today, there is a progressive and multifaceted development of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of cinematography. This was announced on June 10 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"I want to say that Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of cinematography occupies, of course, a special place in our humanitarian ties. And the holding of culture in the year 24-25, before the cross—years, gave these very bilateral cooperation on this track, of course, a new dynamic and a new quality of development," the diplomat stressed at a briefing.

According to her, cooperation in the film industry has received an additional impetus due to the holding of the cross-cultural years, as well as the agreements stipulated in the joint film production plan between the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the State Administration of Cinematography of the People's Republic of China until 2030. Zakharova noted that further cooperation is developing and new projects are being implemented on this basis.

Separately, she drew attention to the already successful and promising joint films. Among them is the film "Red Silk" by the Art Pictures Distribution film Company (part of the National Media Group), which became a notable example of cooperation between the two countries in cinema, as well as its sequel, "Black Silk". According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, filming of the sequel in China has already been completed, and the creators expect that the new picture will arouse the interest of viewers in both countries at the level of the first part.

Zakharova also stressed that festival exchanges are actively developing within the framework of cooperation: Russian films are presented at the Beijing International Film Festival, and Chinese films are presented at the Moscow International Film Festival. In particular, she recalled the awards of Russian films on international platforms and the high interest in Chinese cinema in Russia.

In addition, a Chinese film festival is taking place in Russia, and a Russian film festival is scheduled to be held in China in 2025. According to Zakharova, these initiatives have not only cultural and entertainment, but also educational significance, especially for the youth of the two countries.

Director of photography Andrey Volgin told Izvestia on March 19 that the film crew had begun work on the sequel to the Russian-Chinese film Red Silk. It was noted that filming takes place both in Russia and in China. Complex technical solutions are used for some scenes, including large-scale decorations and special pavilions.
