The first hybrid Moskvich may appear in 2027.
Moskvich Automobile Plant expects to launch production of the first hybrid car under its own brand in 2027. This was stated by the general director of the automobile plant Elena Frolova, Kommersant reports on June 10.
The head of Moskvich said that the hybrid will be slightly more expensive than a conventional car with an internal combustion engine, and the company's model will not claim to be the cheapest hybrid on the Russian market. Currently, the most affordable gasoline-electric car in the Russian Federation is the Evolve i-Space, which costs about 3.5 million rubles without government support.
Frolova clarified that the company focuses on the "mass premium" segment, where Haval and Geely are present. The top manager noted that interest in hybrids is growing in Russia, and called such power plants a more versatile solution than purely electric ones. According to the analytical agency Autostat, in the four months of 2026, sales of such cars jumped 2.3 times year-on-year, to 19.6 thousand units, and their share exceeded 5% for the first time.
The interlocutors of the publication suggested that the first hybrid Moskvich could be the result of cooperation with the Chinese concern SAIC, which already has several hybrid models in its portfolio. In March, Moskvich launched sales of crossovers of the new M-line, which are based on MG brand models (part of the SAIC concern).
Elena Frolova, CEO of the automobile plant, told Izvestia in March this year that hybrid models will appear on the assembly line of the Moskvich automobile plant in the future.
It is noteworthy that the assembly of the hybrid model on the Moskvich will begin earlier than 2027, but under a different brand. On June 8, it was announced that EVM, in partnership with Yandex, would launch the UMO 8 all-wheel drive hybrid crossover on the Russian market.
