The Southern District Military Court has sentenced five Ukrainian citizens to prison terms ranging from 17 years to life in prison in the case of international terrorism involving the murder of the village head in Zaporizhia. This was announced on June 9 by a court representative.
The defendants were found guilty of blowing up the car of the head of the military-civil administration (CAA) of the village of Mikhaylovka, Zaporizhia region. As a result of the terrorist attack, the official was killed, and his young daughter was injured.
"In accordance with the verdict of the court, the defendants were found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 17 years for Smolya, 18 years for Novikov, 18 years for Lyakhovchenko, 18 years for Kirichenko, 18 years in a high—security penal colony. Teterev is facing life imprisonment in a special—regime penal colony," RIA Novosti quoted the representative as saying.
According to investigators, in 2022, the defendants joined an organized group created by representatives of the special services of Ukraine to commit acts of international terrorism. To carry out the criminal intent, the participants purchased an explosive device and a remote control, which they kept in a cache.
In August 2022, one of the convicts planted explosives under the driver's seat of the car of the head of the CAA. The incident occurred when the head of the administration parked at the building of the village authority, got out of the car and left the locks open.
Criminal cases were being investigated against the detainees under articles on the act of international terrorism and illegal trafficking of explosives.
On May 19, the FSB reported that foreigners suspected of detonating a drone on the territory of a military unit had been detained in the Voronezh Region. The ministry clarified that the detained men were recruited by a representative of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Telegram messenger.
