UN Secretary General Guterres urges to observe truce in the Middle East
On June 9, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed concern about the renewed escalation in the Middle East and called on all sides to immediately stop attacks.
"I am deeply concerned about the renewed escalation in the Middle East. All attacks must stop immediately. The truces in Lebanon, Iran and the Gaza Strip must be fully respected," Guterres said on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
He also called for avoiding any steps that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts. In addition, the UN Secretary General expressed concern about Israel's decision to close the crossings into the Gaza Strip and reiterated his call to immediately open them for the rapid, safe and unhindered passage of humanitarian aid.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said on June 8 that the United States was responsible for the Israeli violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon and its consequences. The ministry said that the defensive strikes were launched after a series of ceasefire violations in which Tel Aviv acted in coordination with the Armed Forces of the United States.
