The European Union (EU) may ban the entry into its territory of participants in a special military operation (SVO). This was announced on June 9 by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen during her speech.

"We propose to ban entry to the European Union to all those who have served in the Russian Armed Forces since the beginning of the conflict. Thus, Europe remains closed to all those who participated in [the conflict]," she said during the broadcast, which was conducted on her department's YouTube channel.

Von der Leyen clarified that, among other things, the new anti-Russian sanctions may extend to Russian acquisitions. For example, the EU may ban the sale of tankers for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the Russian Federation, as well as supply it with goods and technologies that can potentially be used in the military-industrial complex (MIC).

"We will take measures against a larger list of metals and alloys used in the defense and aerospace industries," she added.

The head of the EC clarified that the list of new measures against the Russian side may also include a complete ban on the operation of potentially related foreign cryptocurrency exchanges. This step, she explained, would help unite efforts to influence third countries, whose resources allegedly help Russia circumvent sanctions.

The day before, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the EU could include over 80 positions in a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. She clarified that these restrictions are aimed at the military-industrial complex (MIC) of the Russian Federation. Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, on June 5, during the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026), said that his country's economy continues to develop despite the sanctions. He stressed that the fundamental foundations of the development of the Russian economy are stable and have a good prospect.
