- Reuters has learned about the preparation of EU sanctions against 170 individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation
The European Union (EU) intends to propose a 21st package of sanctions against Russia, which may affect about 170 individuals and legal entities, including 90 banks. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on June 8.
"It is expected that up to 90 banks will be included in the package, which will be the largest package at one time," the publication says.
According to the agency, the proposal is scheduled to be submitted on June 11. The new package of restrictions will be aimed at the banking sector and cryptocurrency networks, which, according to Brussels, are used to circumvent existing sanctions.
If approved, the number of credit institutions subject to EU restrictions will exceed 100. In addition, the European Commission (EC) intends to propose a ban on transactions with 35 Russian banks, as well as about ten cryptocurrency platforms.
The Politico newspaper reported on June 1 that the EU countries in the 21st package of sanctions, most likely, will not impose a complete ban on the supply of Russian oil and restrictions on maritime services related to its transportation. The main focus will be on adjusting the current mechanism for limiting prices for Russian oil, while maintaining the current level of the price ceiling is considered as the main option.
