About 100 schools were closed in a Japanese city due to a bear roaming the streets.
In the Japanese city of Utsunomiya, almost 100 schools have been closed due to a bear that has been scaring people on the streets for several days. This was reported on June 9 by The Guardian newspaper.
"Authorities in Utsunomiya, a city of half a million people located about 100 km north of Tokyo, took action after a Himalayan bear was spotted near a park in the city on Saturday. <...> All 94 elementary and secondary schools were closed," the article says.
The authors of the material clarified that for several days in a row, the bear has been recorded by surveillance cameras in different parts of the city. It is also specified that a record number of bear sightings have been recorded in Japan this year – about 50 thousand times. Most of them are concentrated in the northeast of the country.
Later, the Japanese newspaper Asahi reported that the bear had been caught. He was hiding in the courtyard of the house when the veterinarians shot him with a tranquilizer. The animal was taken outside the city limits.
The Guardian reported on June 5 that police in the Japanese city of Fukushima are trying to find an "extremely intelligent" bear that attacked four people. Initially, the bear attacked a parking employee. He was driven away by an eyewitness who directed a car at the animal. After that, the bear ran into an office building, where he attacked another man, and then disappeared again. As a result, the bear entered the electronics factory, where he was locked by the local security service, but got out through the window, opening it himself.
