Ex-head of UEFA has filed a complaint against FIFA President Infantino
In France, former president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Michel Platini has filed a complaint and a civil lawsuit against the head of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino. This was reported on June 8 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper with reference to court documents.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has become the subject of a renewed complaint in France from his former boss Michel Platini.
According to the newspaper, Platini accuses Infantino of abuse of influence and malicious harassment. In addition, the former head of UEFA demands full financial compensation from FIFA for the damage, which, in his opinion, was caused by actions aimed at disrupting his election as FIFA president in 2015.
At the center of the dispute are the events of 2015, when it became known about the payment of 2 million Swiss francs to Platini, authorized by then FIFA President Joseph Blatter. The subsequent investigation led to the suspension of the French functionary from football activities and deprived him of the opportunity to participate in the election of the head of FIFA.
Infantino was elected FIFA president in February 2016, succeeding Blatter amid the largest corruption crisis in the organization's history.
WP notes that Platini considers himself the victim of a campaign aimed at preventing him from becoming the leader of world football. FIFA had not commented on the new legal claims at the time of publication.
On June 2, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) allowed the Russian adult national teams to compete with the flag and anthem. The decision is related to the updated recommendations of the IOC and will take effect from the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong, which will be held on July 22-30 this year.
Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), announced on May 28 that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) had annulled the decision to suspend the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in international tournaments.
