The Russian Interior Ministry explained the danger of storing seed phrases in smartphones

It is necessary to store the seed phrase for the crypto wallet only on physical media and not enter it on third-party sites. This was announced on June 9 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The department noted that the majority of large-scale theft of cryptocurrencies occurs due to the compromise of a seed phrase — a set of 12 or 24 words. Having received such a combination, an attacker can gain control over the funds without a password.

The Interior Ministry pointed out that one of the most common mistakes remains storing seed phrases in the form of photos, screenshots, notes on devices or messages in messengers.

"Security experts recommend storing the seed phrase only on physical media and never entering it on third-party websites or applications at someone's request," the Telegram channel says.

The agency also recommended creating a new wallet and transferring funds to it if the seed phrase was previously photographed, sent via messenger, or stored in cloud storage.
