The head of Volga estimated the timing of the release of fundamentally new models
The launch of fundamentally new Volga models may take place no earlier than 2028. This was announced by the head of the Volga brand Tatiana Fadeeva on June 9.
"We are planning a systematic expansion of the product line, including through the development of our own engineering school. Our main goal is not just to assemble ready—made models, but to create and master our own technologies based on Russian components," she said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
She stressed that now the Volga brand needs to gain a foothold in the market with our model range, launch development projects, as well as master the main components and assemblies.
In March, Fadeeva said that now, although the technical solutions of Chinese partners have been borrowed for Volga models, the company intends to introduce its own model range in the future. Volga is currently localizing those car components that can be quickly integrated into a product within the framework of industry-accessible solutions: tires, rims, glass, batteries, telematics and multimedia. The next step will be to organize the production of larger components and implement our own engineering solutions.
"In the future, cars will differ quite a lot. The models will be redesigned in terms of the exterior and interior. There will be a more comfortable second row of seats, and the interior will be modified in general. The engine-transmission combinations will be redesigned," the head of Volga noted at the time.
The day before it was reported that in 2026 it is planned to assemble about 30 thousand Volga cars at the plant in Nizhny Novgorod. By the end of the year, the company expects to sell 25-27 thousand vehicles. Volga sales will start on June 19. About 25-30 dealerships in Russia are already ready for launch.
Production of Volga models (based on Geely cars) is carried out at the plant in Nizhny Novgorod, where previously Skoda and Volkswagen cars were produced. The project is being led by Nizhny Novgorod Passenger Cars. As it became known on May 26, the Volga C50 sedan will cost from 2.9 million rubles, the K40 crossover from 2.75 million rubles, and the K50 crossover from 4.2 million rubles.
