The man who was preparing the terrorist attack in the colony of the Ulyanovsk region confessed

A man who was preparing a terrorist attack in a penal colony in the Ulyanovsk region wanted to commit a crime on the eve of Eid al-Adha celebrations in order to "make a big impression." Footage of the interrogation of the accused was published on June 9 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.

According to the defendant, he planned to capture and then kill the prison staff, its management and inspectors. The criminal carefully prepared for the terrorist attack: he studied the routes of the guards, made sharpeners, and obtained fittings. He was also looking for accomplices to commit a terrorist act. He justified his motives with religious beliefs.

"According to my religious beliefs, I wanted to carry out this capture during the celebration of <...> Eid al-Adha in order to make a big impression. I regret my actions. I admit that I was wrong. I realized that these actions could cause irreparable damage," the man said.

In addition, he called on the Muslim Brotherhood not to repeat his mistakes "in any case."

The prevention of a terrorist attack in a penal colony in the Ulyanovsk region became known earlier that day. The FSB Central Control Center noted that the convict, motivated by "religious hatred and enmity," intended to shake the foundations of traditional Islam with his actions on the eve of Eid al-Adha celebrations.

On May 22, the FSB Central Control Center reported that since the beginning of 2026, the agency has prevented 101 terrorist crimes in Russia, 78 of them terrorist attacks. The FSB of the Russian Federation recalled that representatives of the special services of Ukraine do not reduce their activity when recruiting in the messengers Telegram and WhatsApp (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). It was noted that all those who agreed to assist the Ukrainian side would be identified and brought to criminal responsibility.
