The leaders of the European Union (EU) countries are ready to take a leading role in negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on June 8 by Stefan Cornelius, the press secretary of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, after a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany and the United Kingdom in London.

"I think what is new is that this process is now gaining momentum in Europe. Another new development is that we are resuming and continuing the negotiation process, which was largely led by the United States. We are doing this in close coordination with the United States," Politico newspaper quoted him as saying.
