On Tuesday, the Ukrainian government is required to make a payment of $172 million to repay the debt on previously issued loans. This was reported on June 9 by RIA Novosti after studying the documents of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to information from the IMF, the Ukrainian authorities must pay 125,737,500 special drawing rights (SDR) by midnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, which, according to the official exchange rate of the fund on June 5, is $1,368 per SDR.

The next payment is expected to be made on July 10.

Ukrainska Pravda, citing IMF spokeswoman Julie Kozak, reported that the fund's staff will visit Ukraine in the near future to assess progress in implementing economic reforms and expanding the tax base under the $8.1 billion loan agreement. According to Kozak, Kiev should "expand the tax base and bring part of the shadow economy out of the shadows into the official sector." In addition, the IMF representative noted that the Ukrainian authorities should make more financial efforts to cover their needs, despite the large-scale package of financial assistance from outside.
