The UK plans to allocate $1.5 billion for the development of hardware for artificial intelligence (AI), including investing in the development of supercomputers and microcircuits. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on June 8.

"The UK has submitted a new plan worth 1.1 billion pounds ($1.47 billion) for the development of internal computing capacities in the field of AI, including a new national supercomputer and support for domestic chip manufacturers," the material says.

So, by 2030, the British government intends to commission a supercomputer for AI worth $ 1 billion. Another $530 million will be allocated for the purchase of specialized chips, of which $150 million will be used to purchase chips from local IT companies.

The Financial Times newspaper reported on April 5 that the British authorities were negotiating with the American AI company Anthropic to expand its presence in London amid a conflict with the United States over the use of technology in the military sphere.

On July 5, Reuters reported that global stock markets began the week with a sharp decline after a large-scale sell-off in shares of major technology companies, which in recent months have been the main beneficiaries of the boom around artificial intelligence. Investors began actively selling shares after the manufacturer of Broadcom chips presented a disappointing forecast to the market.
