Olga Avanesyan, a practicing psychologist and psychotherapist, warned about the risks of reading books on psychology. In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, June 8, she noted that psychology books help to better understand yourself and others, but reading alone may not be enough to make real changes.

According to the expert, people perceive information through the prism of their own experiences, traumas, beliefs and family scenarios, which can lead to misinterpretation of what they read. As a result, psychological literature sometimes does not help solve the problem, but only increases painful experiences.

The expert noted that many behaviors are formed in childhood and eventually become automatic. It can be difficult for a person to notice such "blind spots" on their own, so looking from the outside often helps to better understand the reasons for their reactions and change their habitual behavior scenarios.

Avanesyan also stressed that insights alone are not enough: after realizing the problem, it is important to introduce new skills into everyday life. In addition, she called the ability to recognize one's own feelings and listen to body signals one of the key skills for psychological well-being.

Before that, on June 1, experts noted that books about patriotism, finance and psychology were in the top among children. According to experts, the trends are related to school recommendations and increased anxiety.

In March, psychologist Svetlana Kolobova interviewed Pravda.Ru said that many people find it increasingly difficult to read long texts and keep their attention due to atrophy of concentration. According to her, the format of information consumption has changed: the brain is used to the rapid flow of content and perceives longer texts worse. Many people today find it difficult to focus even on reading a large book. This is especially noticeable among teenagers, for whom a slow plot and a large number of descriptions become a serious challenge, notes 360.ru .

In February, a study showed that men in Moscow are actively interested in non-fiction literature, with one in three books purchased related to business literature, psychology, or economics. It is noted that the top three most popular genres among men are manga (24% of demand), fiction (20%) and self-development literature (16%). This is followed by business books (12%) and foreign classical prose (10%), followed by works of Russian classics (8%), according to the Moscow City News Agency.

In November, it was reported that there was a noticeable increase in interest in psychology and self-development literature in Russia: book sales in this category increased by 20%. According to analysts, seasonality has become one of the reasons for the increase in demand: in autumn, people are more likely to turn to issues of psychological comfort and well-being, writes NSN.
