Doctor Myasnikov urged Russians not to take vitamin D tests unnecessarily
Russians should not take a blood test for vitamin D unless absolutely necessary. This was announced on June 8 by doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov on the program "About the most important thing" on the channel "Russia 1".
"Don't just do a blood test for vitamin D. It's not necessary if you don't have a clinic, muscle pain, bone problems, and so on. <...> Don't make a fetish out of it," the doctor said.
Myasnikov noted that vitamin D is an exception among other trace elements, as it is allowed to be taken by almost everyone. At the same time, the specialist identified groups of people who absolutely need to use this substance. The doctor referred children, pregnant women, and elderly people to them.
Eneko Fernandez, a researcher at the University of the Basque Country, together with colleagues from the University of Urbino, conducted an eight-week experiment with runners and non-athletes on May 21 and found that regular outdoor workouts are no less effective for maintaining vitamin D levels in winter than taking daily supplements.
