Bild reported on the possible arrival of an ultra-right politician to the post of mayor in Germany

An ultra-right politician may become the head of the German city of Aue Bad Schlem for the first time since the fall of the Nazi regime. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on June 7.

"The far-right extremist who organized torchlight processions against refugee shelters wants to become mayor of Aue Bad Schlemy in Saxony today," the publication says.

It is noted that Stefan Hartung, a 37-year-old representative of the Free Saxons party, whose faction is considered to be right-wing extremist, is leading in the mayoral elections. In the past, Hartung was a member of the far-right National Democratic Party of Germany (NDPG).

According to the publication, in the first round, the politician won 29% of the vote, and in the second stage he is counting on the support of the voters of the candidate from Alternative for Germany, who received 18.5%, but dropped out of the race. The main rival remains Christian Democratic Union (CDU) candidate Markus Hoffman, who received 23.6% of the vote in the first round.

It clarifies that even in case of victory, the candidate may not take office, since after the elections the district authorities are obliged to check the future chief mayor for loyalty to the constitutional system of Germany, adds "Газета.Ru ".

Neither huge contributions to the organization nor a member of the General Assembly helped Berlin win.

The Bild newspaper reported on June 6 that the level of dissatisfaction with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz among the German population reached 77%, thereby setting a new anti-record. It was noted that only 16% of respondents were satisfied with the work of the country's ruling coalition, while 78% expressed the opposite opinion.
