- In Odessa, employees of the shopping mall abducted the protodeacon of the Trinity Cathedral of the UOC
Employees of the territorial recruitment center (TCK, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine) mobilized a clergyman of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Odessa. This was reported on June 7 in the Telegram channel of the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).
According to the organization, on June 6, employees of the Shopping mall detained a cleric of the Trinity Cathedral of the UOC, Protodeacon Nikolai Mazurts. The clergyman's relatives clarified that he was diagnosed with a number of diseases, including myopia and spinal problems, which are confirmed by medical documents.
Despite the cleric's state of health, the military medical commission found Nikolai Mazurts fit for military service. On the day of his detention, the clergyman was sent to the Vinnytsia region.
On Sunday, June 7, the protodeacon contacted his family for the first time. He said that he was currently being sent to serve in the Mykolaiv region.
On May 5, the UOJ reported that Hierodeacon Evlogy, a resident of the Pochaev Lavra of the canonical UOC, was illegally detained by the staff of the Shopping Mall and taken to an unknown destination. According to the union, cases of illegal detention of UOC clerics by TCK staff have become more frequent since 2025, despite the fact that monastics are usually exempt from conscription according to the legislation of Ukraine.
