Canadian forward of the Edmonton Hockey Club Connor McDavid was named the best hockey player of the season by the National Hockey League (NHL) players' Union. The athlete won the Ted Lindsay Award for the fifth time.This was announced on June 7 by the league's press service on its page on the social network X (former. Twitter).

In terms of the number of these awards, the 29-year-old Canadian set a record, equaling his compatriot Wayne Gretzky. The top three finalists according to the results of the vote of the union members also included the Russian forward of Tampa Nikita Kucherov and the Canadian striker of San Jose McLean Celebrini.

McDavid was selected by Edmonton in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. In the 2022-23 season, he became the sixth player in league history to score 150 or more points in the regular season. At the end of the 2023/24 season, the striker was the first in the 21st century to break the 100 assists mark for the regular season. In the entire history of the NHL, this achievement has been achieved by only five hockey players.

Russian goalkeeper of the Tampa club Andrey Vasilevsky won the Vezina Trophy award as the best goalkeeper of the NHL regular season the day before. Vasilevsky scored 114 points in the voting, while his compatriot Ilya Sorokin took second place with 51 points. American goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman took the third position with 46 points.
