Russia is trying to convey to Armenia that the European Union has actually become a military association. Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, said this in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin for the Vesti news agency.

According to him, Moscow has been drawing Yerevan's attention to the changing nature of European integration behind closed doors for several years. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that today the EU has ceased to be an exclusively economic union and has transformed into a military-political union.

"We've been talking about this to Armenia all the time, and we've been talking about it for years," he said.

Overchuk noted that this association openly declares its hostility towards Russia. He added that Moscow continues to point out these facts to its Armenian colleagues and allies so that they can assess the consequences of their actions.

On the same day, Pashinyan pointed out that the republic was not ready to join the European Union. He noted that the authorities are aware of the country's unwillingness to join the association and intend to focus on internal transformations. According to the head of government, Yerevan will continue to follow the path of implementing the necessary reforms in a calm manner.

On May 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question from Izvestia, stated that if Armenia were to adopt the economic standards of the European Union (EU), integration processes with the republic would have to be curtailed. He warned that upon withdrawal from the EAEU, Armenia would lose access to free trade agreements, and its citizens would need to acquire patents to work in the Russian Federation.
