Reshetnikov called for changing the rules for returning goods on marketplaces
In Russia, it is worth changing the rules for returning goods on marketplaces. This was announced by Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development, in an interview with Izvestia.
As the head of the department explained, this has not been fully worked out yet.
"Now the stories begin: "it didn't fit" or "I wore it for two weeks and returned it." The same children's costumes, Christmas trees in January, and so on," he said.
This situation creates additional costs for companies, such as transportation of goods and their poor quality. The seller cannot influence this in any way, the minister added. Therefore, it is necessary to change the rules of refunds, in particular, the law on consumer protection. The authorities are currently engaged in this, the minister explained.
In addition, the head of the department drew attention to the fact that platforms are one of the key drivers of labor productivity growth. They become what is called "goalkeepers" in Europe, controlling entry to the market. They also have a tendency towards monopoly — in this case, competition and regulation are important so that the conditions for all players are the same, Reshetnikov added.
"This is the main task of the bill, which will be effective from October 1. For example, every product card on the marketplace — and there are tens of millions of them — should be checked against ten parameters in government databases — and this should be done regularly, almost online," he stressed.
