China has announced the launch of a special naval operation in the waters east of Taiwan. This was reported on June 6 by Xinhua news agency, citing a source.

"The Ministry of Transport has organized a special operation to ensure the observance of maritime navigation in the waters east of Taiwan Island," the agency reports.

This decision was Beijing's response to the negotiations between Japan and the Philippines on the demarcation of maritime borders in the region. The Chinese ministry stressed that such actions by Tokyo and Manila violate the territorial sovereignty and maritime rights of the PRC.
