Portugal's national football team defeated Chile in a friendly match before the 2026 World Cup. The match took place at the Estadio Nacional do Jamor stadium in Lisbon on June 6 and ended with a score of 2:1.

Gonzalo Guedes scored in the 58th minute and Bruno Fernandes in the 75th minute. Lucas Cepeda scored the only goal of the Chilean national team in added time. Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo joined the starting line-up, but was replaced at half-time.

Portugal will participate in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The team was placed in the same group with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uzbekistan and Colombia. The players from Chile did not qualify for the tournament.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced on June 2 that the final bids of the national teams participating in the 2026 World Cup included 12 players who played in the last season of the Russian Premier League (RPL). Zenit St. Petersburg, Dynamo Moscow and Krasnodar received the largest representation among Russian clubs — two players from each of these teams will go to the World Cup.
