On June 6, four-time Olympic swimming champion Alexander Popov commented on the victory of tennis player Mirra Andreeva at the Roland Garros tournament and noted the resilience of her character.

"Well done! She took it and showed that Siberians do not bend," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Popov added that Andreeva's victory is worthy of the highest awards.

Andreeva defeated Maja Chwalinska of Poland in the final of the French Open and won a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. The match ended with a score of 6:3, 6:2 in favor of 19-year-old Andreeva, who was seeded at the tournament at number eight. Andreeva became the third youngest Grand Slam champion in the 21st century.
