CAS rejected the appeal of former hockey player and CEO of Sochi Grigorenko
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeal of Igor Grigorenko, former striker of the Russian national team and ex-CEO of the Sochi club. The relevant information is published on the organization's website.
On August 27, the IIHF announced that as part of an investigation conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency, the presence of several prohibited substances in Grigorenko's doping sample was discovered. The biomaterial was collected after one of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) playoff matches on March 12, 2015. On that day, CSKA Moscow, for which Grigorenko played, met with the Finnish club Jokerit. In connection with the revealed violations, the IIHF decided not only to disqualify Grigorenko as a player, but also to remove him from his duties as CEO of the Sochi Hockey club.
The arbitration upheld the decision on the athlete's disqualification imposed by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The suspension period is four years.
Initially, it was assumed that the sanctions would begin on August 12, 2025. However, following the outcome of the proceedings, the CAS changed the effective date of the decision to March 7, 2025.
On January 23, the German press service reported that the Russian Gymnastics Federation and athlete Victoria Listunova had filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision of World Gymnastics to refuse to grant neutral status. The Russian Federation noted that the appeal to CAS is exclusively legal in nature and is aimed at obtaining an independent assessment of the decision made in the interests of the athlete.
