- The Russian government announced negotiations on the abolition of visas with four countries.
Russia is negotiating with Malaysia, Indonesia, Bahrain and Kuwait on the introduction of a visa-free regime. This was announced on June 6 by Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"We are discussing with our partners the possibility of completely canceling visas with Malaysia, Indonesia, Bahrain and Kuwait and for organized tourist groups from India and Vietnam, by analogy with the current mechanism under intergovernmental agreements with China and Iran," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Chernyshenko recalled that last year Russia canceled visas with China, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Myanmar.
On June 2, Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin announced that in the first quarter of this year, passenger traffic between Russia and China increased almost one and a half times due to the visa-free entry regime. According to him, the overall increase in the number of tourist trips was 46%.
