The deputy of Abkhazia was sentenced in absentia to 10.5 years for attacking Russian citizens.

The Central District Court of Sochi sentenced Kan Kvarchia, a member of the Parliament of Abkhazia, to 10.5 years in a high-security penal colony in absentia for attacking Russian citizens. This was reported on June 5 in the joint press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory.

"A citizen of Abkhazia has been convicted of organizing an attack on Russians in Sukhumi. The Central District Court of Sochi announced the verdict against Kan Kvarchia, who was found guilty of committing a crime under paragraph "b" of part 4 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation," the publication says in the Telegram channel.

It is noted that Kvarchia and three accomplices attacked three Russian employees of the editorial office of the newspaper "Abkhazian Bulletin" in Sukhum in November 2025. The defendant was sure that the Russians were secretly conducting Internet channels criticizing the Abkhaz opposition, together with other attackers, he stole money and personal belongings from the victims, the total damage is estimated at over 2 million rubles.

The court granted the civil claims of the victims. The verdict was delivered in absentia, since Kvarchia is hiding from the justice authorities and is wanted, at the moment the verdict has not entered into force.

The press service of the Second Western District Military Court reported on June 5 that Vasily Kiryushchenko, an ideologist and one of the leaders of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK, an organization banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as a terrorist organization), was sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia. In addition, according to the decision of the court, civil claims for compensation for moral damage and compensation for material damage were satisfied.
