The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia did not deprive Samvel Karapetyan's bloc of registration for the upcoming elections on June 7. This was announced on June 5 by the head of the Central Election Commission Vahagn Hovakimyan.
"Aram Sargsyan's appeal to cancel the registration of the Strong Armenia bloc by Samvel Karapetyan should be rejected, the decision comes into force from the moment it is announced at the meeting," Sputnik Armenia quoted him as saying on the Telegram channel.
It is clarified that the issue was considered on the basis of an appeal by the leader of the pro-Western Republika Party, Aram Sargsyan, after an appeal by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. At the same time, the decision of the CEC does not automatically mean the removal of the block from the elections — the final decision will be made by the administrative court after filing the relevant claim.
On May 27, Pashinyan announced that after being re-elected in the June parliamentary elections in the republic, he would initiate the adoption of a new Constitution of the country. He specified that the procedure would be implemented through a nationwide referendum. According to the Prime Minister, the relevant item has already been included in the election program of the ruling Civil Contract party, and the issue of changing the country's basic law has been on the government's agenda since 2018-2020.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin said during talks with Pashinyan on April 1 that Russia wants to see Russian-oriented political forces in the elections in Armenia. He noted that some pro-Russian politicians are in prison in Armenia, despite the fact that they have Russian passports.
