iSpring founder sentenced to three years probation in fraud case
The Yoshkar-Ola City Court sentenced Yuri Uskov, the founder of the IT company iSpring, to three years of probation for fraud on an especially large scale. This was announced on June 5 by the entrepreneur's lawyer Matvey Tsen.
"Yuri Uskov was found guilty, he was given three years of probation and a fine of 500 thousand rubles," he said in an interview with TASS.
The defense does not agree with the verdict and intends to appeal it to higher authorities.
According to the lawyer, two other people were accused along with Uskov, officials of the Orsha district administration of Mari El, and they were acquitted.
"Of course, we will appeal the decision, we hope for an acquittal," Tsen added.
The investigation claims that the criminal case is related to the purchase of a land plot in 2013, on which an IT village was later built. According to law enforcement officials, the land was purchased at an undervalued price.
On September 2 last year, the Supreme Court of Mari El overturned the decision to impose house arrest on the founder of the iSpring IT company, Uskov, who is accused of fraud on an especially large scale.
On February 12, the Yoshkar-Ola City Court of the Republic of Mari El refused Uskov's house arrest. According to him, the investigation requested that the founder of the IT company be placed under house arrest. It is noted that during the hearing, the man expressed surprise at the charges. At the same time, Uskov was given a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions.
On February 11, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia announced that a criminal case had been opened against Uskov and the head of the administration of the Orsha district of Mari El, Plotnikov, on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale"), on fraud with municipal land plots. According to the investigation, in 2013, iSpring bought a plot of land from the municipality for the construction of an IT village at an undervalued price.
