The preparation of new US sanctions against Russia runs counter to the statements of the American side about the prospects of cooperation with the Russian Federation. This was announced on June 5 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"This somewhat contradicts the assurances that we sometimes hear from the American side that once the Ukrainian conflict is resolved, Russian-American relations will begin to live a new life," the diplomat said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He noted that Moscow sees not just a continuation of the sanctions policy of the previous administration, but increased pressure from the current US leadership.

On June 3, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the White House administration was working on a bill providing for the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. According to him, the wording is currently being agreed upon, while the policy of sanctions pressure remains in place, despite the issuance of licenses for the sale of Russian oil.

On the same day, Rubio said that it was necessary to maintain diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow, as well as to continue the bilateral dialogue. The Secretary of State stressed that the issue of resolving the Ukrainian crisis and relations between the two countries should be considered separately.
