- The domestic PD-8 engine has successfully passed flight tests on the Superjet
The new PD-8 aircraft engine has successfully passed flight tests as part of the Superjet aircraft, and the airliner certification program is nearing completion. This was announced on June 5 by the head of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).
"PD-8 is one of the first steps to certify our Superjet. Today, this engine is already flying as part of an airplane. I flew a lot of hours," he said.
The head of the state corporation expressed the hope that the Superjet will fully pass the certification procedure by the end of 2026. In parallel, Rostec is developing a new modification of the PD-8V power plant. This unit is designed to replace foreign components on the Mi-26 heavy helicopter. Previously, engines for this model were produced at the facilities of the Ukrainian company Motor Sich.
"We are creating our own [engine]. And the helicopter itself is very, very necessary. Not only for the military, but also for civilians," Chemezov concluded.
Rostec announced on April 29 that the PD-8 engine had been tested in conditions of a potential vessel hitting a cloud from heavy hail. Tests conducted in the open area of the Rybinsk ODK-Saturn enterprise showed that the power plant works reliably even in the conditions of the described extreme situation. Later, the state corporation noted that the PD-8 had completed a full cycle of certification tests.
