Koloskov named five favorites of the FIFA World Cup
Honorary President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov named the main contenders for victory at the upcoming FIFA World Cup (2026 World Cup) on June 5.
"I believe that five national teams will be the favorites of the World Cup. In my opinion, these are the teams of Spain, France, Argentina, Brazil and England," Koloskov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
At the same time, he noted that much will depend on the state in which the national teams will approach the World Cup.
The World Championship will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19. The upcoming tournament will be the first in history to feature 48 national teams. At the moment, the current world champion is the national team of Argentina, which won the trophy at the last World Cup in Qatar.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced on June 2 that the final bids of the national teams participating in the 2026 World Cup included 12 players who played in the last season of the Russian Premier League (RPL). Zenit St. Petersburg, Dynamo Moscow and Krasnodar received the largest representation among Russian clubs — two players from each of these teams will go to the World Cup.
