Peskov expressed hope for the resumption of negotiations on Ukraine. The main theses
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made a number of statements in the Izvestia studio on June 5 as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).
Putin was informed about Zelensky's open letter
«<...> It was handed over to the president, he got acquainted. The President has been informed. <...> With a high degree of probability, I can assume that this topic will somehow appear [at the SPIEF plenary session]."
Russia hopes that negotiations on Ukraine will be resumed
"We still hope that the pause that has now formed will be broken. And some contacts will be called. Moreover, we continue to communicate with the Americans through existing channels," Peskov stressed.
There are no plans for a meeting between Putin and Trump in the near future.
"There are no plans. Obviously, in order for the meeting to take place, good homework must be done in terms of moving along the peaceful path of Ukrainian regulation."
The position of the White House is consistent and contradictory at the same time
"[US Secretary of State Marco] Rubio, who said that: 'in general, we support only one side — this is Ukraine, and we supply weapons there,' and so on. This is consistently happening <...>. On the other hand, world affairs are arranged in such a way that, despite significant contradictions in statements, specific cases are important, and in specific cases we see a really sincere desire from President Trump and some members of his team to help resolve the Ukrainian conflict."
Russia has partnership relations with Serbia
"Serbia is a country with which we really have partnership relations. And these partnerships allow us to discuss the most pressing issues."
Armenia does not actually participate in the work of the CSTO
"Armenia has not participated de facto in the work of the CSTO for quite a long time. We know that the current leadership of Armenia is, I would say, artificially trying to put the country at a crossroads. He is going to organize a choice for the country to go towards Europe or towards the EAEU. We are convinced that if we put the orientation towards the EAEU on the scale, then the EAEU outweighs it for Armenia. This is beneficial for Armenians," Peskov said.
Orban is a pragmatist and friend of Hungary
"Orban has always been a great pragmatist, he was not our friend, he was a friend of the Hungarian people, and he did what was beneficial to Hungarians, and often this benefit coincided with our benefit. And when something becomes mutually beneficial in interstate matters, that's partnership."
The interest of Western business in Russia has never disappeared
"After all, the main thing is the interest shown by Western business, which it does. <...> This interest has not disappeared, it has always been present. <...> We are interested in proving to everyone that we are a reliable country, we are the best country for investment, because no other country in the world It cannot develop without foreign investments. It's just not possible."
