Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Izvestia on June 5 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that relations and trade ties with Georgia could be in doubt if Tbilisi decides to join the European Union (EU).

"The current Georgian leadership is pragmatic, they confirm their course towards the European Union, but they understand that then they will have to stop being a country that is famous for its agricultural products," he said.
