Excessive consumption of kvass can cause serious harm to health, as this drink is often a mixture of sugar syrup and yeast. This was announced on June 5 by Svetlana Filatova, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at the Juvi Clinic for Men's and Women's Health.

The specialist stressed that people with gout should completely abandon the popular summer drink: the purines contained in kvass can significantly worsen the course of the disease. Due to the presence of cereals, yeast and fermentation products, the product also poses a threat to allergy sufferers. The high sugar content makes regular consumption of kvass dangerous even for healthy people, as it leads to negative metabolic changes.

"Industrial kvass is a liquid dessert with a high glycemic index and a yeast base. It "acidifies" the body, overloads the pancreas and provokes weight gain," she explained in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».

Filatova suggested homemade kvass as an alternative, but in a limited amount — no more than one glass per day. According to her, a natural drink can positively affect the intestinal microflora and strengthen the nervous system thanks to B vitamins. At the same time, the doctor pointed out the need to control the strength of the product and strictly observe the storage conditions in the refrigerator for up to five days.

"It is better to drink it after meals to avoid a sharp spike in sugar and fermentation in the stomach," the expert added.

To quench thirst, the nutritionist recommended giving preference to plain water. In conditions of summer heat, the rate of fluid intake increases to 40-50 ml per 1 kg of body weight. Filatova noted that this volume does not include soups, tea or sweet kvass, as they require additional efforts from the body to break down substances.

"Homemade kvass with moderate consumption (up to 200 ml per day) can be useful for digestion. However, if your goal is to maintain vascular health, maintain a healthy metabolism and prolong youth, replace any drinks with clean, slightly mineralized water," concluded Filatova.

On Friday, May 29, Victoria Sadovskaya, an endocrinologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, named unhealthy but popular breakfast dishes among Russians. According to her, it is worth avoiding fatty and fried foods, such as fast food, sausage or sweet pastries. These foods relax the lower esophageal sphincter, the valve between the stomach and esophagus, slowing down gastric emptying.
