The Iranian Ambassador to the Russian Federation announced the discussion of the mechanism for regulating the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) is negotiating with the Government of Oman to develop a mechanism for managing the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated to Izvestia on June 4 by Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"Before the war, this strait was completely open to all ships. But we understand that completely new conditions have appeared in this region. And taking into account the new conditions, we make the right decisions. But as for the fate of this strait, it is only in the hands of the Omani and Iranian leaders," he explained.

Jalali stressed that the strait will be opened under new conditions and the issue of charging a certain fee for the transit of ships has also been put up for discussion.

On June 4, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that the Iranian government has no plans to allow paid passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The diplomat noted that payment will be charged only for services provided to vessels in the specified area jointly with Oman.
