The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment named the number of illegal landfills in Russia over the past year

Last year, over 8,000 unauthorized landfills were recorded in the country. This was announced on June 4 by Alexander Kozlov, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Kozlov noted that the size of such facilities varies from small piles to large landfills. The leaders in the number of landfills were the Krasnodar Territory and the Orenburg Region.

The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment added that the state provides support in the elimination of large objects of accumulated damage that pose a threat to human health. As an example, Kozlov cited the Krasny Bor landfill in the Leningrad Region, where industrial waste has been stored for decades.

"The state paid attention to this because this waste could not have entered the bay in any way, otherwise there would have been an emergency situation," he stressed.

According to him, funds were allocated for the safe disposal of waste and a company was appointed to isolate the waste from the bay and create facilities for its disposal.
