Fradkov pointed to the high results of Russian athletes despite the sanctions

Russian track and field athletes continue to show good results, despite the current international restrictions. The President of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) told Izvestia on June 4. Peter Fradkov at the "Towards the 2028 Olympics" session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"At the end of the season, the winter season, in the 2026 indoor, five athletes from Russia entered the World Athletics top ranking based on the results. This is a great result," he said.

Fradkov noted that Russian athletes Daniil Lysenko, who competes in the high jump, and Polina Knoroz, who specializes in the pole vault, were among the leaders of the world ranking. He stressed that representatives of Russia occupied the first and second lines of international ratings.

The President of the Federation also said that the training of athletes continues as planned. According to him, athletes combine training within the country with foreign training camps. In particular, sports bases in Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Kenya are used for training.

"This is conducting joint foreign, combining home and foreign training camps. That doesn't stop us from doing it. These are Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Kenya," said the president of the VFLA.

Fradkov noted that such a system is already yielding results. As an example, he cited marathon runner Vladimir Nikitin, who set a new Russian record in the marathon after a training camp in Kyrgyzstan. The previous achievement, as specified by the head of the VFLA, remained unsurpassed for 15 years.

In addition, Fradkov said that Russian athletics maintains a high level of competitiveness and continues to prepare for future international competitions, including the 2028 Olympic Games.
