There are pictures of the latest Chinese nuclear submarine with a special feature
An unknown Chinese submarine without a traditional conning tower has been discovered on satellite images of the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai. This was reported on June 3 by the Naval News portal.
"The main distinguishing features of the boat are its streamlined bow, X—shaped rudders and a minimal number of sails. China has already experimented with sailless submarines (a sailless submarine is a boat without a sail—like part containing a wheelhouse or periscope. — Ed.), one of which is being built at the same shipyard," the publication says.
According to analysts, such an arrangement is extremely rare and may indicate the development of a new type of high-speed and low-noise underwater platform. The Chinese authorities have not made any official statements about this.
Experts estimated the length of the submarine at about 120 m and the width at 10-11 m. It is larger than most modern diesel-electric submarines and many nuclear submarines.
The absence of a deckhouse, according to experts, should improve the streamlining of the hull, increase speed and maneuverability, as well as reduce the noise and visibility of the boat. The purpose of the new submarine remains unknown.
South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-baek announced on May 26 that Seoul will commission its first nuclear submarine by the mid-2030s. He also said that the development and production of the future submarine will be carried out exclusively on the territory of the republic.
