The REC announced the ability of the Russian Federation to maintain exports in case of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz

Russia will be able to maintain export supplies even in the event of disruptions on routes through the Strait of Hormuz due to diversified logistics. Veronika Nikishina, head of the Russian Export Center (REC), told Izvestia on June 4 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2026).

"The problem of the Strait of Hormuz for the entire world trade should not be overestimated. But it would also be irresponsible to underestimate her," Nikishina said.

As the head of the REC pointed out, only about 4% of the world's container traffic passes through the Strait of Hormuz, but disruptions in the operation of this route have already led to an increase in the cost of logistics. For Russia, the most noticeable consequences arose in the directions associated with the ports of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which were used as large hubs for the distribution of Russian goods to the markets of the region. Deliveries remained, but became longer in time and distance, which entailed additional costs.

"Russia has never been a country that has only one logistics corridor. We have always worked very seriously to diversify the methods and routes of delivery," the head of the REC emphasized.

According to Nikishina, the supply of agricultural products to the Persian Gulf countries was the most affected by the changes. The main export destination for Russia remains the Eastern polygon, which supplies Southeast Asian countries through China and other countries in the region, which reduces dependence on individual routes and maintains the stability of foreign trade.
