A strong magnetic storm will cover the Earth on the evening of June 4

A strong and prolonged magnetic storm may hit the Earth this Thursday evening. This was announced on June 4 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"The beginning of a strong and prolonged G3 category magnetic storm is expected this evening, Moscow time, as a result of the arrival of several (two or three) plasma clouds to the Earth at once, ejected yesterday by the Sun in the direction of the Earth as a result of a series of strong flares," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.

The scientists explained that although the initial solar explosions were spaced in time by about 10 hours, the storm would be continuous. According to experts, later emissions of matter in space should catch up with the early plasma clouds. As a result, a single structure of about 200 million km is formed.

The IKI RAS also noted that G3-level events are classified as strong, but not record-breaking. The expected storm may become the second or third most powerful this year. The probability of auroras occurring during such disturbances is estimated to be exceptionally high.

According to their data, the star threw out a cloud of neutral hydrogen, which does not allow the Sun's radiation to pass through. Scientists explained that the light from the star is completely consumed by the ionization of this substance.
