A Ukrainian commander with the call sign Bart ordered the militants in the village of Dobropole not to let civilians near him and to "reset" everyone, including civilians. Daniel Zharkov, a captured ethnic Sudanese, reported this on June 4.

"They were sent to the village of Dobropole, where they had already been fully equipped with grenades, cartridges, and radio stations... They gave instructions not to let anyone near them, no civilians, no one, to reset everything," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Zharkov, the group was fully equipped with grenades, ammunition and radio stations. He was appointed the senior member of the group.

The prisoner clarified that the order was given by a young second lieutenant named Andrei with the call sign Bart. According to Zharkov, he would not have been able to shoot at a civilian.

Zharkov was born in the town of Fastov, Kiev region, into a Sudanese and Ukrainian family. According to the source, he first served in the 30th separate mechanized brigade, from where he escaped. He was later detained by the police and sent to the front as part of the 14th Krasnaya Kalina Brigade, part of the Azov group (the organization is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
