- The Prime Minister of Ukraine announced the EU's approval of the start of negotiations on Kiev's accession to the bloc.
The European Union (EU) countries have approved the opening of the first cluster of the negotiation process for Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the union. This was announced on June 4 by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.
"All EU member states have given the green light to the opening of the first cluster as part of the accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to Sviridenko, Kiev has become one step closer to membership in the association.
The newspaper La Repubblica reported on June 3 that Italy had begun to be more restrained about the idea of Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU. According to the newspaper, if such a position becomes the official line of the government, it could seriously affect Kiev's European prospects. Renunciation of EU membership would mean for Ukraine the loss of one of the key foreign policy landmarks.
