In Russia, they plan to launch QR codes for online payments
In Russia, they plan to introduce a personal QR code with which it will be possible to pay for purchases without the Internet, said Dmitry Dubynin, CEO of the National Payment Card System, in an exclusive interview with Izvestia. According to him, we are talking about the code that forms the client's banking application and which can be shown at the checkout. The NSPK wants to develop such a scenario in order to give people the opportunity to pay offline.
"We plan to introduce this technology, we want to give people the opportunity to pay with a personal QR code offline," Dmitry Dubynin said.
Currently, QR payments are linked to Internet access anyway: the user's device must either generate a QR code or scan it. At the same time, the NSPK is already using offline technologies in other payment scenarios. For example, from the customer's point of view, the Mir payment system can work without the Internet when a person pays for a purchase with a plastic or tokenized card — through Mir Pay or Volna.
He also explained that if Volna operates on the basis of the Mir payment system and is linked to the client's card, then such a payment will also take place without the Internet.
