Russian citizens are already using the digital ruble to pay administrative fines and other payments to the budget. This was announced on June 3 by the head of the Federal Treasury, Roman Artyukhin, in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"Any citizen can pay payments in digital rubles to budgets and budget systems. The tax payment simply does not apply. For example, we have already received 35 thousand rubles in various fines, administrative fines, fines for traffic violations," he said.

According to Artyukhin, the new form of the national currency practically does not differ from the usual non-cash payments. He explained that the main difference lies in the method of storing funds. If ordinary non-cash money is in a bank account, then digital rubles are placed in a special digital wallet on the platform of the Central Bank of Russia.

The head of the Russian Treasury recalled that the first operations using the digital ruble in the public sector were carried out last year. Then, as part of the experiment, the head of the State Duma Committee on the financial market, Anatoly Aksakov, voluntarily received a salary in a new form of national currency. He called the experience a success.

Artyukhin expressed confidence that with the development of services and financial technologies, the digital ruble will be increasingly used by both citizens and government agencies when making payments.

"Citizens began to gradually, gradually <...> approach the use of the digital ruble. In this situation, we have a hypothesis, <...> this is our line, that with the development of digital legal relations, the use of the digital ruble will be more and more widely used in our budget system," he predicted.

The head of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, Elvira Nabiullina, announced on April 24 that cash will remain in circulation with the introduction of the digital ruble into the economy. According to her, the Central Bank does not plan to accelerate the mass introduction of the digital ruble, but will refine it so that "people choose it themselves." Nabiullina also noted that the share of cash in the money supply remains at a minimum, despite the fact that demand for them in Russia increased at the beginning of the year.
